SHRUBS

Purple Sage, Cenizo
Scrophulariaceae Leucophyllum frutescens

This gray leafed shrub, up to 8 feet tall, puts on a big show after a summer rain when the almost inch wide lavender flowers cover its foliage. It adds interest even when it is not in bloom because of the color of the evergreen leaves. The deer do not usually bother this plant. It needs full sun and should be well drained. Watch for blooms from May to October.
