TREES

Chinkapin Oak
Fagaceae Quercus muehlenbergii

Chinkapin oak is very large tree (up to 80 feet) found in the canyons of the Hill Country.   The leaves are large and have tooth edges.  If you are in the nursery you can look up and see mature specimens of this tree.  It has a large acorn crop each year.   It requires deeper soils, but makes a magnificent shade tree.
